Coffee with Stephen Puleo, Historian and Best Selling Author of "The Boston Italians"

Saturday, November 21 ,2009, 10:30 AM

The Boston Italians by Stephen PuleoAuthor Stephen Puleo will discuss his best-seller, “The Boston Italians,” at the Georgetown Library on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 10:30 a.m.  The event is co-sponsored by the North Shore Area and Newburyport branches of the American Association of University Women and the Friends of the Georgetown Peabody Library.

Refreshments will be served.  Tickets are $10 and may be reserved by contacting  Pat Gorton, bgort@verizon.net

Puleo, also the author  of  Dark Tide: The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919 and Due to Enemy Action: The True World War II Story of the USS Eagle 56, holds a master’s degree in history and won awards as a newspaper reporter and contributor of feature stories and reviews to American History magazine.   He has entertained and informed more than 225 audiences since the 2003 publication of Dark Tide.  It was standing room only at his recent appearance in Topsfield.

The Boston Italians: A Story of Pride, Perseverance and Paesani, from the Years of the Great Immigration to the Present Day, has been described as moving “like a fast-paced novel” as it dispels old myths about the southern Italian immigrants who worked together to make a better life.  It's been cited favorably by both literary groups and Italian-American organizations.

Puleo will sign copies of his book for those who choose to purchase them.  He donates a portion of his proceeds to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The ticket sales will enable  AAUW to send a college student to the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders, to be held in June, in Washington DC and for community projects by the Friends of the Library.
