Set Dancing Photos by Peter Jee
Peter Jee often takes photos of Irish musicians and set dancers. He has
set up is own website, where he has some photos of various set dancing
events. He stopped by the ceili
on Cape Cod in January 2008 at the Irish Village in Yarmouth and
captured some great photos of the event. The Northeast Ceili Band played.
The Danvers and Harrington's set dancers sponsored a Holly
Ball in December 2007. Peter has photos of the event that was held at the UU church
hall in Reading.
At the November 2007 Comhaltas
Radio Program Fundraiser Mike O'Connor and Larry
Reynolds were honored for their contributions to the Irish and
Irish-American communities. See Peter's photos.
Thanks, Peter, for taking such great photos and sharing with us. This
night Peter was at the usual Wednesday
night set dancing session at Harrington's in November 2007. Except
for the month of December, the set dancers en-JOY a couple of hours
of dancing "upstairs at Harrinton's." Several
of the photos show off the new "Joy of Sets ~ upstairs at Harrington's" tee
shirts. Steve Zubricki, professional phtographer and designer and
enthusiastic artist and set dancer, created the graphic. If you're
interested in getting a tee-shirt yourself, contact Frank or Eileen (replace
at with @ symbol).
The Green Briar has a
fabulous Irish music session, I'm told. Peter's
photos of the musicians show what a large group gather to play.
I'm sure there is excellent music to be heard.
Peter was at Molly
Malone's in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in November 2007 and took
these photos of a session hosted by Terry Weir. Terry leads a regular
Wednesday night session at Harrington's in Wakefield, Massachusetts,
as well.
Peter gets around with his camera. This time he was at the Echoes
of Erin Concert on Saturday, November 2007 at Waltham High School.
And here's another set of photos from the 2007
Bad Abbots Festival

I think this captures the spirit of the moment and the great feeling
of exhiliration the dancers experience. Here's a slide
show with the same photos as in the album above but set to music.
Below is the group as they started into their first full year of
set dancing after enjoying their experience in the summer of 2006.
They didn't want it to end.

South Galway set dance, The Borlin Polka Set
and many others this year."

Eileen Dugal and Larry Tormey put on another fabulous ceili in Danvers

Thursday, June 26th 2008 at the Danvers set dancing school locatiotthe
Danvers Art Association building on Route 62, off 128, in Danvers.
The agenda included the Gay Gordon and the Circle Waltz, two ceili
dances to start the fun, and several sets dances learned at classes
during the year, including the Slieve Froach, the Ballingeary, the
Williamstown Set, the Dunmanway, and more. The refreshments, brought
and shared by the dancers, were abundant and delightful. It was a
great time. Set dance teacher Eileen Dugal called the sets. The dancers,
not only from Danvers but from all over the Boston area, are grateful
to Eileen and organizer Larry Tormey. Classes resume in the fall
in Danvers. The "graduates"
of the Danvers class are invited to enjoy set dancing all summer
at Harrington's Pub in Wakefield (MA) every Wednesday from 7:30 to
9:30 PM, where a group of dancers gather for four or five sets and
light refreshments all year, except for the month of December.

Dance Master Patrick O'Dea is one of the world's leading teachers of Irish step dancing and set dancing. As the protégé of the late Joe O'Donovan, he teaches old style traditional step dancing from the Munster region of Ireland, as well as many popular sets. He is a fluid, playful, and natural dancer. To learn more about his dancing, view an article written by Boston set and sean nos dancer Kieran Jordan about Patrick which appeared in the Boston Irish Reporter many years ago.
